GAUTIER FERRERO

Originally from Mauritius, Modely Thibaud (born in 1988) now divides his life and work between Paris and Cannes. From an early age, his talent for drawing was evident. In primary school, a teacher, impressed by his artwork, predicted in front of the whole class that he would become a painter. Encouraged by his grandfather, who gifted him a set of oil paints, an easel, and his first canvases, Modely discovered the world of painting with fascination. He explored its possibilities and became captivated by its texture and scent.

However, driven by sporting interests and the influences of adolescence, he temporarily put aside his creative talents. At the age of 16, watching the film Basquiat by Julian Schnabel was a turning point for him. Inspired, he returned to painting, initially working with watercolor before turnBorn in 1983, Gautier FERRERO works and lives in the South of France. After a Master’s degree in Greek philosophy at the Sorbonne University, his questionings find an echo in Eastern spiritualities : His research then takes the experimental direction of a Master’s degree in anthropology on Zen Buddhism at the University of Nice, followed by a doctoral research on Hindu religion.

Progressively, the curiosity for abstract understanding transforms into an inclination towards an intuitive approach… A transition through garden and landscaping works will put him in contact with the sensoriality of nature : an experience that reveals his creativity, and keeps on nourishing his imagination. His work begins afterthe study of academical techniques at the Barcelona Academy of Art, followed by personal explorations.ing to oil painting. The desire to create was rekindled, and he found a deep pleasure in the process, guided by his instincts and inspirations.

In recent years, Modely has explored new mediums, including ceramics, silk, and glass. Upon Request presents a curated selection of hand-crafted ceramic furniture created between Cannes, Biot, and Vallauris on the French Riviera.
